Why Learn From This Duo?

Jesse Coomer

After a decade in professional practice, Jesse has earned a reputation as one of the foremost voices in breathwork today; a bestselling author, educator, and founder of The Language of Breath certification program. He bridges cutting-edge respiratory physiology with accessible, evidence-based practices that real people can use. As author of “A Practical Guide to Breathwork” (2020) and “The Language of Breath” (2023), he has helped set standards for excellence and safety in the breathwork world. In this course, Jesse focuses on translating complex breath mechanics into clear, actionable ways to avoid overdoing it while still going meaningfully deep.

Dr. Aki Tsuchiyagaito

Aki holds a Ph.D. in Child Development and is a neuroscientist and former clinical psychologist working between the U.S. and Japan. As a former director of a neuroscience lab, she now applies breathwork to real challenges such as sleep debt, perfectionism, anxiety, and depression—while improving emotional control, productivity, creativity, and athletic performance. Certified in Oxygen Advantage® and Buteyko Breathing and faculty at The Language of Breath School, Aki is known for turning complex science into concrete tools without oversimplifying. In this course, she helps you understand what your brain and nervous system are actually doing in altered states, so you can respect your limits and work with them intelligently.

Questions You Might Be Asking

It is healthy to be cautious with this kind of work. Here are clear answers to common questions.

I’ve been doing altered state breathwork for years—will this still help me?

Yes. This course is specifically designed for people who already have experience. Instead of teaching basic techniques, we focus on capacity, safety, and understanding what is actually happening in your body and brain. Many experienced practitioners have never had structured guidance on these aspects.

Is this a replacement for therapy or medical care?

No. This course is educational. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace therapy or medical care. If you have a history of significant trauma, mental health challenges, or medical conditions, we strongly encourage you to consult with a qualified professional about how you engage with intense breathwork.

Will this course teach me how to guide others?

This course is focused on your personal preparation and safety as a practitioner. It is not a certification and does not qualify you to guide others. If you later choose to train as a facilitator, the awareness and literacy you build here will still be valuable.

Do I need a specific breathwork style to benefit?

No. The principles in this course apply across many forms of altered state or intense breathwork, regardless of school or brand. We focus on mechanisms—nervous system activation, breathing chemistry, interoception—so you can apply what you learn to your preferred style with more discernment.

How long do I have access to the course?

You receive lifetime access to the recordings and materials. You can revisit modules and practices before future sessions, retreats, or seasons of more intensive work.

What if I’m currently working with a therapist or coach?

Many people find it helpful to share what they learn here with their therapist or coach. This course can give you language and frameworks to bring into those conversations. It does not replace their guidance, but it can make your work together more precise.

What if I’m new to altered state breathwork?

This course assumes you already have some experience with breathwork and are either doing, or considering doing, more intense or altered state practices. If you are brand new, it may be better to start with a foundational breathwork program first, and return to this course once you have some lived experience to map onto.

How long will it take to go through the material?

Most people can move through the core lessons in a few focused evenings or a weekend. However, this is not about rushing. We encourage you to take your time, pause for reflection, and revisit key sections before significant journeys or retreats.

Who should not take this course? What are contraindications for Altered State Breathwork?

Do not participate in altered state breathwork if you have any of the following conditions:

Cardiovascular disease, including angina, prior heart attack, or history of stroke

Uncontrolled high blood pressure (not managed with medication)

Epilepsy or history of seizures

Aneurysm in the brain or abdomen, or family history of aneurysm

Detached retina

Glaucoma

COPD, emphysema, or other chronic obstructive lung conditions

Pregnancy (first trimester or complicated pregnancy)

Osteoporosis severe enough that physical movement poses injury risk

Diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or personality disorder

Active psychosis or paranoia

Hospitalization for a psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last 10 years

Active or recent stroke, TIA, or other neurological condition

Recent surgery, fractures, or significant physical injury still in recovery

Uncontrolled diabetes

Uncontrolled thyroid conditions

Kidney disease

Consult your physician before participating if you:

Have asthma (mild to moderate asthma may be manageable with facilitator awareness and inhaler present)

Are taking psychiatric medications including antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, ADHD medications, or mood stabilizers

Are in the second or third trimester of an uncomplicated pregnancy

Have a history of panic disorder or panic attacks

Have severe PTSD or are in an active trauma processing phase without clinical support

Are currently using recreational substances or are in early recovery

This course is educational in nature and does not constitute medical advice. If you have any condition not listed here that affects your cardiovascular, respiratory, or neurological system, please consult your physician before engaging in any altered state breathwork practice.

Your Investment: $47, Lifetime Access

Enrollment is a single $47 payment that gives you lifetime access to all course materials and updates. This is intentionally priced as a low‑friction step for serious practitioners who want science‑informed, trauma‑aware guidance without a big financial barrier. For less than the cost of a single session with most therapists or facilitators, you gain a structured framework to reduce preventable harm and deepen your confidence with altered state breathwork.

If you plan to continue practicing altered state breathwork for years, this is about learning to relate to it in a way your future self will thank you for.

Is This You?

You’re new to breathwork and want to have a profound experience without the risk of causing yourself harm? Or maybe you are not new to breathwork, but you’re wondering if the way you’re engaging with intense or altered state sessions is truly supporting your system. Maybe you'd like to go deeper into your practice safely, with a science-based method?

  • You already do intense breathwork sessions, journeys, or facilitated ceremonies.
  • Part of you wonders if you’re sometimes pushing past your nervous system’s real capacity.
  • You’ve had powerful experiences—but you’re not sure they’re fully integrating into everyday life.
  • You notice lingering fatigue, anxiety, flatness, or emotional swings after some sessions.
  • You value trauma-aware, science-informed guidance more than chasing the “biggest” experience.
  • You sense there’s a more skillful and responsible way to work with altered states, and you’re ready to learn it.

A mature shift in focus

This course is for practitioners who are ready to move from “How intense can this get?” to “How skillfully and safely can I relate to these states over years, not just sessions?”

Prepare Now for Deeper, Safer Altered States

If you are already working with intense breathwork, you likely sense two things at once: the real potential for insight and change—and the possibility of hidden harm or missed depth if it is not held well. This course gives you a grounded, science-informed way to honor both truths.

For $47, you can build the awareness, capacity, and safety skills that make altered states more sustainable over years—not just more dramatic in the moment.
